From September 1971 to September 1972, Morton Feldman lived in Berlin as Artist-in-Residence under the Berlin Artist Programme of the German Academic Exchange Programme (DAAD). Chorus and Orchestra 2 was composed in Berlin between May and July 1972. The first performance took place early the following year, in a concert at St John's Smith Square, London, on January 5th 1973. The performers were, Hilary Western, soprano, with the Choir and Orchestra of the Royal Academy of Music, London, chorus master Simon Rattle, conducted by Alan Hacker. The recording below was taken from a radio broadcast on April 12th 1973. The recording has been digitally enhanced to improve clarity and remove extraneous noise by Jonathan Coleclough.
