[Morton Feldman Page] [Feldman: Homages] |
For Morton was written in the fall of 1987 shortly after the death of Morton Feldman, the composer's mentor. The work is an homage to Feldman and features a non-synchronized score where the players' parts do not align. Instead each player follows his or her part, each being in a slightly different tempo. As with many of Garcia's works, the music is sparse, delicate, and static. The counterpoint between timbre, registration, density, and pacing, as well as the search for the point where silence ends and sound begins, are primary aesthetic concerns.Orlando Jacinto Garcia
