In the liner notes to the CD recording of a selection of his piano pieces performed by John Tilbury (Sony Classical SK 66482), Howard Skempton writes:
It was Morton Feldman who described decay as the true life of a sound. Many of my early pieces, Piano Piece 1969 for example, take their cue from Feldman's early piano music.
